VoiceThread Docs / Web Application / Commenting / Commenting on videos

Commenting on a video in VoiceThread allows you to insert your comment directly into the video’s timeline while also interacting with it dynamically as you record. All you have to do is:

  1. Move to the position in the video where you want to insert your comment, and
  2. Record a voice or video comment.

As you are recording, use the play button at the bottom of the slide to begin playing the video, or use the scrubber ball on the timeline to scrub to a different location in the video. Any movements you make through the video will be made a part of that comment, and whatever you see on your screen as you record is what your viewers will see as they watch your comment.

After you save your comment, a small blue nib will appear on the video timeline where you recorded. This allows your participants to see exactly which part of the video you commented on.

There are two ways to interact with the comments on a video:

  1. Click on identity images in the conversation channel on the left side of the slide, just like you would for any other type of slide.
  2. Hover your mouse over a video’s timeline in VoiceThread, and you’ll see a pop-up with the list of people who have inserted comments into that video. Click on a person’s name to play their comment. As you pass your mouse over each nib, you will see the name of the person who recorded that comment highlighted.

Pro Tip: If you are the first person to record a comment on the slide, your comment will automatically appear before the video.  This allows you to record an introduction.  All other comments will be saved after the video.  If you own the VoiceThread, you can change the order of the comments after they are recorded so that everything plays back in the order you would like. The video is represented by a camera icon in the conversation channel.
